Vegas Baby!!!

Those of you who know us know that Debbie and I are not gamblers at all
so Vegas may seem like an odd destination for us.

What Vegas does have is a large airport for Debbie's sister Denise to fly into to
to meet up with us for a visit.


So we picked Denise up on Sunday and she stay with us at the RV that night,

After a late breakfast on Monday I dropped the girls off at one of the
nice hotels on the strip for 2 nights of sister time.

I was left to fend for myself back at the RV surrounded by casinos and their evil casino buffets.



Of course in order to get to the buffet you must first make run the gauntlet while making your way through the casino without loosing your dinner money.

The buffet is always at the back of the casino.

I am happy to report that the only thing I lost at the casinos is my will power in the buffet line.


On Wednesday I picked up the girls down on the strip, they were a little tired
but after all the bright lights and big city they were ready for some outdoor nature activities.


Denise left snow behind when she flew out so the weather was perfect


A couple of days of hiking and rock climbing in Red Rocks and
Valley of Fire State Parks outside Las Vegas

Waco Texas to Galveston Texas is a big state with lots of miles in between our stops. After leaving Roswell NM we had two full days of driving to get to our first destination, Waco, Texas. We learned that the Chisholm Trail came through this part of Texas The Chisholm Trail was a trail used in the post-Civil War era to drive cattle overland from  ranches in Texas to Kansas railheads. Heading to Albuquerque

On Our Way To Albuquerque  With just under two weeks until the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta we have about 1100 miles to cover to get there. So we made a quick two night stop in the Flaming Gorge area of Utah Came across this... display in a country store way out in the country. The things you see on the road, right? Moved on to Vernal Utah where we went to Dinosaur National Monument An actual dinosaur skeleton on display. Millions of years ago a great river flowed through this area with a sharp bend where  this desert hillside is today.  Over time, as water levels rose and fell, and dinosaurs died, their bones were swept away  and deposited in the river bank here leaving this large collection of bones. Although many bones and full skeletons have been removed and shipped all over the country  there are still over 1500 actual dinosaur bones here in the hill side. Titan Missle Silo

From the spring of 1963 through the spring of 1984 Titan II Inter Continental Ballistic Missiles were on alert in hardened underground bunkers in the US. There were 18 Titan II missile silos around Little Rock Arkansas, Wichita Kansas and Tucson Arizona for a total of 54 missiles scattered across the prairies and deserts of the southern United States. The museum is an original silo from the cold war and it holds the last remaining Titan II missile. With the missile sites being small 1 acre sites scattered across the prairie and desert there was no one stationed topside to let you in.
