A Slow Start to our Great Adventure

As we prepared to start our adventure we were on track to close on our home on September 14, 2017 and be on the road shortly thereafter. 


Unfortunately, Hurricane Irma  hit South Florida on September 10 forcing us to delay the closing twice while we cleaned up up the damage and made repairs.
Our departure date was delayed by a month but we finally were on our way on October 14.


         Our first stop was Sabastian FL to visit Debbie's step mother Mo and her husband Dick.
                         


While there we went to the National Navy Seal Team museum in Fort Pierce, what a great place...
                        

        You may remember that it was Seal Team Six that rescues the crew of the Maersk Alabama.
                  The life boat that the crew was held captive on is on display at the museum.
                       

                        It was also Seal Tram Six who carried out the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden
                       


         Sunday dinner was at Earls, a locally famous or infamous biker bar. (We're such Rebels...)


     Good people and great food

After 2 days in Sabastian we were off to Tampa for Deb's quarterly check up at Moffit Cancer Center which was a good visit.

Although we have a very loose schedule we do have reservations along the way like at the Grand Canyon as well as certain dates that we have to be somewhere.

Time to head north and get out of the Florida heat.


With no planned stops in the Florida pan handle, Alabama and Mississippi we motored on towards a  meet up with old friends in Canton Texas.

Got to help out a little on the farm and play a little tractor tag,,,
When one tractor just doesn't quite get the job done, get a second tractor and chain them together

US Military Bone Yard

The Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona is home to the largest military aircraft boneyard in the world. The 2,600 -acre boneyard currently holds over 3,975 aircraft and 13 aerospace vehicles from the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Navy-Marine Corps, and NASA. This is where all the unused and obsolete aircraft are parked in the desert until they can be either sold or scrapped. Security is tight here and you must submit 10 days in advance to a background check before they will allow you to make a reservation for the boneyard tour. When entering the base on the tour everyone must exit the bus and wait in a windowless concrete garage type building while they search the bus. While traveling across the base on your way to the boneyard no photos are allowed until you enter the boneyard gate. Titan Missle Silo

From the spring of 1963 through the spring of 1984 Titan II Inter Continental Ballistic Missiles were on alert in hardened underground bunkers in the US. There were 18 Titan II missile silos around Little Rock Arkansas, Wichita Kansas and Tucson Arizona for a total of 54 missiles scattered across the prairies and deserts of the southern United States. The museum is an original silo from the cold war and it holds the last remaining Titan II missile. With the missile sites being small 1 acre sites scattered across the prairie and desert there was no one stationed topside to let you in.
