Free Camping on BLM Land
The federal government owns approximately 28% of all the land in the US with huge tracts of land controlled by the National Forests, National Monuments and the Bureau of Land Management.
In many areas you can camp for up to 14 days free of charge provided you are completely self contained, clean up after yourself and follow all the rules.
On our way to Tucson we decided to try Camping like this.

Being out in the middle of the desert means no electric, no water .... and no neighbors

Although we weren't far from Interstate 8 it was very quiet out here with nothing but
Being out in the middle of the desert means no electric, no water .... and no neighbors
Although we weren't far from Interstate 8 it was very quiet out here with nothing but
the sound of the wind and the occasional coyote
A little unnerving seeing signs like this but many, many people "boondock" like this out here
without incidence and we had 50 miles of open desert between us and the border
We only stayed one night but it was so great being out here hearing the coyotes
and seeing the milky way and a million starts at night
We will be doing this again..
Excellent pictures. Looks like you guys are having the time of your lives.
ReplyDeleteYes we are, looking forward to more adventures down the road
