Denver and Westward
As we planned to leave Colorado to continue our great adventure we talked about all the time we have spent in Colorado over the years and how we never saw the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater in the foothills west of Denver....that's about to change.
Red Rocks Amphitheatre is an open-air amphitheater built into the rocks near Morrison, Colorado,
10 miles west of Denver.
The amphitheater was built into the rock hillside amongst huge vertical rock formations and has a seating area for up to 9,525 people.
In addition to the fabulous amphitheater the Colorado Rock and Roll Museum is also here with many artifacts from the many historic performances over the years.
The Beatles performed here in August 1964 during their 1964 US tour.
Red Rocks was a favored venue for The Grateful Dead and their band of "Dead Heads".
Jethro Tull, Jimi Hendrix, Wide Spread Panic, Blues Traveler and many others have performed here.

At its high point , the amphitheater sits at 6,450 feet above sea level,
and the surrounding Red Rocks Park covers 868 acres.

And of course, Colorado's favorite son, John Denver once said that loved performing amongst the rocks so much that he wished he could fly his fans in to have all his concerts at Red Rocks
so that they may see the beauty.
During our visit they were setting up for a concert that night for a group we had never heard of, (guess we're just old fogies).
While the technicians were performing their sound check we were able to rock out on some AC/DC.
Had a little lunch on the patio
If you find yourself coming this way this is a great place to spend a day.
Heading west out of Denver up into the mountains we stayed the night at our first "Harvest Host".
Harvest Host is a membership we purchased allowing us to visit and patronize orchards, farms, vineyards, museums, golf courses, etc. and spend the night at no charge on their property.
Our first Harvest Host just happened to be a distillery in Dotsero Colorado
You could sample their product and if you like it you could order drinks at their bar
I think Debbie liked it
As we continued west through Glenwood Canyon we stopped in Glenwood Springs for a day.
With it's old historic train stain station that is still used today by Amtrak and it's historic yet
eclectic downtown, Glenwood Springs is a fun stop.
The Colorado River was really high and fast from all the snow melt
Until next time...
