East to Grand Coolie and Beyond

Grand Coolie Dam and Beyond

We continue to head east towards Glacier National Park in Montana and the landscape changes quickly from the lush green forests of the Pacific Northwest and the Cascade Mountains to a
much drier and rockier environment

We spent a night in Wilbur Washington so we could see the Grand Coulee Hydro Electric Dam

The dam is Ginormous standing 550 feet high. The original dam was completed in 1942 after 9 years of construction and power from the dam fueled growing industries in the Northwest US during WW2.

After being extended in 1974 Grand Coulee now measures 5223 feet in length,
just 57 feet short of a mile.

After going through security we were able to tour parts of the dam and power house

The Ginormity of this place just doesn't come through in the pictures

Driving through eastern Washington State we saw mile after mile of rolling hills like this.
You might say they were "amber waves of grain".

Is it wheat, barley ... I don't know, being from Jersey I never claimed to be a farm boy.

They sure were working long hours to get it harvested using multiple combines and trucks

We were camped about two blocks from this grain elevator in Wilbur Washington and the
grain trucks were coming and going from early in the morning to late into the evening.

Also saw the largest bails of hay being hauled. They were 9'x5'x5'.... huge!!

OK, guess that's enough of Ralph's farm report; enjoyed seeing this area

Still Making it a Great Day!!!
