Eleven Days in Glacier National Park

Eleven Days in Glacier National Park

So,  if you are a person who enjoys the outdoors and the beauty of nature,
at some point in your life you have to see Glacier National Park

Now before I continue I want to say that normally, when creating a post I try to only post photos that help to tell the story and I refrain from just posting a lot of pretty photos.

But here in Glacier, there is so much beauty, it would be wrong not to show as much of it as possible.

During our 11 days here we hiked a lot and everywhere we turned was another beautiful view

Water falls and wild flowers

Wide open, "spectacular" views.... we found ourselves using the word "spectacular" often.

In Glacier they have a shuttle system that runs from the east entrance up and over
Going to the Sun Road all the way to the west entrance.

So one morning we got up before the sun and caught the first shuttle for the hour long ride to the top of Logan Pass to hike the Hidden Lake Trail.

At the trail head we were informed that 2 miles in  the trail was closed due to Grizzly Bear activity.
Seems that the day before they had a Grizzly Bear eating a mountain goat it had killed
just off the trail.... Ahhh, a little danger to make this adventure exciting..

So into the back country we hiked, up the hills past wild flowers, waterfalls and big sky
spectacular (there's that word again) views of glaciers

Spectacular?? ... Yeah!!

We even came across these white mountain goats

They came relatively close too, maybe 200 feet

Spectacular, right??

Then there are all the waterfalls we saw on our hikes...

So many waterfalls... too many to remember all their names

Everywhere we went in Glacier, every hike, every shuttle ride, every time we ran to the store or went out to eat, we couldn't help but notice something remarkable, something spectacular.

One morning we were waiting for a shuttle at the visitor center on the west side of Glacier in St Mary and this guy came charging across the field at a full gallop.

It was an incredible thing to see.

Wildlife is everywhere if you just get out there, have some patience and take the time to
really look for it.

This weasel had his burrow just off the path at the top of Logan Pass

These Big Horn Sheep were part of a herd that we saw several times in the campground in the
Two Medicine area of the park. We saw big horn sheep several times throughout the park.

After seeing that big bull Moose in West Glacier we were always on the lookout for more moose.
We had heard that there were frequent moose sighting up in the Many Glacier part of the park
so we knew we had to go there.

The lodge at Many Glacier is (sorry but I have to say it) "spectacular",  located on the lake with
such incredible views.

But we were looking for moose, and moose we found

Deb and I were walking the shoreline of a lake about 30 yards apart when these two came charging out of the willows between us and into the lake.

Junior had an independent streak and chose to leave mom in the deeper water while he
wandered around the shallow water

He really liked splashing like this

We spent about 45 minutes just sitting there watching them do moose stuff

A mile further up the trail as we approached Red Rock Falls we heard a loud bellow come
 from the forest above us.

We stopped on the trail and watched …. and waited....
Soon, these two came trotting out of the trees, across the path in front of us and into the lake below.

So I'm thinking, maybe we don't want to get between a moose and the water..  Ya know??

So as I try to wrap this very long post up and pull it all together all I can say is... get out there!

See America!!

Take the road less traveled

Live on the edge

The view is …. spectacular!!

Thanks for checking in... sorry for the long post.

 Next up Yellowstone National Park

Making it a Great Day... since 1983
