Victoria British Columbia In honor of Debbie's birthday we are going International That's right, we have packed our bags and passports and hopped the ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria British Columbia for a 2 day, 1 night adventure. After a quick 90 minute crossing into Canada we arrived at the busy harbor in Victoria The harbor is a swarm of activity with several big ferries, a flotilla of small water taxies running everywhere to the many float planes coming and going The Fisherman's Wharf area of town is a community of houseboats along the harbor There were also many working boats tied up at Fisherman's Wharf It was so nice walking around the waterfront and downtown... there is so much to see and the people are very friendly Victoria is a small, very walkable city and very clean city Down at the harbor you can catch a ferry to Vancouver or the US, take a whale watching tour  or take a float p...

Olympic Peninsula

Lavender, Logs and National Forests Upon arriving on the Olympic Peninsula we spent 1 night in Sequim at a Harvest Host  that was a beautiful lavender farm The farm is open to the public and they encourage people to walk in the fields and take pictures. There is a gift shop and an ice cream shop where they sell lavender flavored ice cream. While walking through all the lavender fields you can't help but notice the thousands of bees,  big bees, buzzing everywhere out in the fields.  I never paid much attention to such things before but you could actually see hundreds of  bees flying back and forth to the bee hive boxes at the one end of the property.   Of course every farm has to have chicken. right? Really beautiful in the morning light  We took a hike out on the Dungeness Spit which goes 5 1/2 miles out into the  Strait of Juan De Fucco which separates the US from Canada That's Mt Baker in...

Seattle WA

Seattle WA We spent a month in Oregon but now we are off to Seattle Washington After a quick one night stop along I-5 in southern Washington we set up camp in Manchester State Park in Port Orchard which is on the water across the Puget Sound from Seattle. We had a pizza dinner by the waterfront downtown and had to turn in early We were up before the sun the next day to catch the first ferry to Seattle The ferry system here in Washington State  is fantastic. The state operates 22 ferries on the Puget Sound with the largest able to carry 202 cars and 2500 passengers. The ferry we were on can carry 124 cars and 1200 passengers.  The ferry ride was an interesting opportunity to observe people. Many of the walk on passengers appeared ready to climb Mt. Rainer with their large backpack, multiple bottles and headphones. The ferry is like a small, temporary city as some passengers slept on benches, others worked. read, chatted wi...
